Celebrate Mother’s Day in Aberdeen

If you’re considering escaping with the family for Mother’s Day then Skene House Apartments Hotels offer excellent child-friendly accommodation in the heart of the city and the inside track on where to take mum to make her feel appreciated, loved and relaxed.

For a start Skene House’s luxury serviced apartments, in terms of travelling with family, are superior to a hotel room. With one, two or three bedrooms, your own living space and a personal kitchen, you can put the kids to sleep in their own rooms and then relax, store milk for the children or chill a bottle of bubbly in the fridge, make mum a fresh cup of coffee in your own kitchen in the morning, or pop on the television for the kids giving parents time to get ready for a special night out. Our accommodation makes travelling with wee ones that little bit easier. There’s even a laundry room in each property should you have to deal with last minute spillages or those ever so endearing little accidents.

Skene House simultaneously provides the benefits of a hotel. Mum will be welcomed by a 24 hour reception staff, invited to have a welcome free drink (at our Whitehall and Holburn properties) and whilst the kids may wish to prepare mum breakfast in bed, if it ranks higher in enthusiasm than taste then rest assured that you can book breakfast with us as well. Our free parking means you can load up the car with goodies, bouquets of flowers and all the detritus needed to get the family on the road. We’re also located close to Aberdeen’s rail and bus stations.

Whilst it’s perfectly feasible to cook up an inspired meal for mum in our fully furnished kitchens it may be a treat to escape the cooking and the dishes for a family friendly eatery. All Skene House properties are central so it’s easy to walk, and push a buggy, to any of the destinations highlighted. Alternatively our reception staff can book you a cab because sometimes it’s nice to have someone else be the chauffeur for the day.

For a quirky afternoon tea in dainty, shabby chic surroundings, head to Cup on Little Belmont Street. Its iced teas are fun and colourful, and its chocolate afternoon tea is a real treat. If hearty, home cooked Italian cuisine would satisfy your tribe then Poldino’s, also on Little Belmont Street, should fit the bill excellently. Traditional Scottish fare can be found at Howie’s on Chapel Street. Fantastic burgers are available at Boozy Cow on Langstane Place and its excellent cocktail list may tempt you as well. If mum’s a bit of an ice-cream guru then Crolla’s on Rosemount Place, with its large seating area and flavours ranging from Turkish Delight to Scottish Tablet, may provide a sweet pit stop. Many family-friendly chain restaurants can be found in Union Square which is home to quality brands such as Carluccio’s, Pizza Express, Giraffe, Wagamamas and Las Iguanas, or drive to Aberdeen Beach which has a mix of independent cafes and well known chains so you can sightsee, dine and walk off any over indulgence.

If you wish to give mum some ‘me time’ then spas such as The House on Great Western Road and Pure in Union Square offer a range of pampering. Meanwhile it’s easy to entertain the kids at Duthie Park with its Winter Gardens and three separate play areas, or head for the Aberdeen Science Centre to work those grey cells, or perhaps Codona’s at the beach for a mix of bowling, soft play and fairground attractions. The children will definitely return to mum with lots of stories and their seemingly boundless energy run off (well, at least a little).

For any last minute treats and gifts we’ve got it covered. Four Seasons florist on Rosemount Place is close to Skene House Whitehall, Flower Vogue on Schoolhill is within walking distance of our Rosemount property and the Kim Dalglish florist is on Holburn Street. Quality jewellery can be purchased at family firm Finnies on George Street and Jamieson & Carry on Union Street, or browse Nova on Chapel Street for a range of gifts. For a sweet treat consider a beautiful box of macaroons from Almondine’s on Thistle Street. For more specialist goods then Aberdeen has a range of outdoor clothing shops, vintage stores, even a shop selling rare maps so ask our reception team and we’ll do what we can to point you in the direction of something a little different.

Our staff are happy to help with any surprises or special requests to make your Mother’s Day become that little bit more memorable so do please get in touch. We hope you enjoy your time together. It is great that there is so much to do (and eat) in Aberdeen, I have heard it be fondly named the place of ‘good food’ before x

There’s a great larder up here – seafood, game and beef to name a few, and that’s before you move onto the whisky, craft beers and local gins. Quite a lot to sample when you visit.
