You’ve worked for years, burnt the midnight oil and the relief and joy of actually graduating is just around the corner. The graduation ceremony is a time when, for better or for worse, families come together to celebrate. Bringing relatives into one room can be a joyous or, shall we tactfully say, ‘colourful’ experience and having hosted many graduation parties over the years we at Skene House know exactly what is required. And we’ll gladly recommend places to eat and celebrate so you have happy memories of this key moment in your life.
Skene House Apartment Hotels provide an ideal base for family celebrations as you experience togetherness as well as much needed privacy. Our one, two and three bedrooms apartments each have their own kitchen and living room so families can spend time together before retiring to their own rooms to get ready for the celebration. Downstairs Skene House provides all the benefits of a hotel – breakfast, stylish lobbies where guests can congregate and enjoy complimentary teas and coffees, and a 24 hour manned reception where we can book you a cab or point you in the direction of the nearest shops, beauticians or florists for those last minute purchases and treatments. Stay at the Holburn branch and raise a glass at our Honour Bar, the first drink is complimentary so you can start celebrating as soon as you arrive.
In terms of location our two short stay properties, Holburn and Rosemount, are wonderfully central so well suited for visitors popping to Aberdeen by rail or bus, and the airport is around fifteen to twenty minutes away by taxi. If travelling by car then Skene House provides ample city centre parking for all our guests so that’s one less thing to stress about. Both properties are a short cab ride from Elphinstone Hall, the MacRobert Building and the Beach Ballroom (for University of Aberdeen and Aberdeen College graduates), and His Majesty’s Theatre is a few minutes walk, even in heels, from our Rosemount branch (for RGU graduates). And if you have some tiny tots celebrating your educational achievements we can provide high chairs and travel cots as required, just request them upon booking.
CELEBRATE AT – Booking a family meal that works for mixed palates and dietary requirements can be a challenge so here are a few recommendations to help you out.
To celebrate in style try Granite Park in Golden Square, especially handy for His Majesty’s theatre and Skene House Rosemount. It has a Gluten Free and Dairy Free menu alongside its quality A La Carte, and with a private room accommodating up to forty diners there’s an option for a big party. Almost everyone likes Italian so head to Rustico for a taste of Sicily. A wonderfully relaxed atmosphere and space for small and large parties alike Rustico ticks all the boxes. Moonfish on the cobbled medieval streets of Aberdeen’s Merchant Quarter serves up delicious dishes but it also boasts an extensive Gin Menu: including The Botanist from Islay, Edinburgh Gin, Zuidam Genever from Holland and Monkey 47 from Germany. And if you want to offer your family a taste of Scotland head to our partner restaurant Howie’s to savour haggis, cullen skink, North Sea haddock, cranachan and sticky toffee pudding. Howie’s also has a family room and is currently taking bookings for graduation parties. Lastly, if a meal isn’t enough then end the evening on Union Street’s champagne bar Eclectic Fizz. You worked so hard! It’s time to celebrate!
