For a start Skene House’s luxury serviced apartments are superior to a hotel room, in terms of travelling with family. With one, two or three bedrooms, your own living space and a personal kitchen, you can put the kids to sleep in their own rooms and then relax, store milk for the children or chill a bottle of bubbly in the fridge, make mum a fresh cup of coffee in your own kitchen in the morning, or pop on the television for the kids giving parents time to get ready for a special night out.
Our accommodation makes travelling with wee ones that little bit easier. There’s even a laundry room in each property should you have to deal with last minute spillages or those ever so endearing little accidents.
Skene House simultaneously provides the luxury of hotel services with the benefits of self-catering. Mum will be welcomed by a 24 hour reception staff and can help herself to our honesty bar (at our Holburn property).
Whilst the kids may wish to prepare mum breakfast in bed, if she discovers it ranks higher in enthusiasm than taste, then you can book breakfast with us as well. Our free parking means you can load up the car with goodies, bouquets of flowers and all the detritus needed to get the family on the road. We’re also located close to Aberdeen’s ferry terminal, and its rail and bus stations.
Whilst guests can cook up an inspired meal for mum in our fully furnished kitchens, it may be a treat to book a family-friendly restaurant. Skene House properties are so central so it’s easy to walk, and push a buggy, to any of the destinations highlighted below. Alternatively our reception staff can book you a cab.
For a quirky afternoon tea in dainty, shabby chic surroundings, head to Cup on Little Belmont Street. Its iced teas are fun and colourful, and its chocolate afternoon tea is a real treat.
Traditional Scottish fare can be found at Howie’s on Chapel Street. Vovem does a mean Sunday roast (for kids too). If mum’s a bit of an ice-cream guru then Crolla’s on Rosemount Place, with its large seating area and flavours ranging from Turkish Delight to Scottish Tablet, may provide a sweet pit stop.
Many family-friendly chain restaurants can be found in Union Square, which is home to quality brands such as TGI Friday, Pizza Express, Giraffe, Wagamamas and Las Iguanas, or drive to Aberdeen Beach which has a mix of independent cafés and well known chains so you can sightsee, dine and walk off any over indulgence.
Whilst mum’s in the spa, it’s easy to entertain the kids at Duthie Park with its Winter Gardens and three separate play areas, or head for the Aberdeen Science Centre to work those grey cells. Alternatively head to Codona’s at the beach for a mix of bowling, soft play and fairground attractions. The children will definitely return to mum with lots of stories and some of their boundless energy run off.
For any last minute treats and gifts we’ve got it covered. Flower Vogue on Schoolhill is within walking distance of our Rosemount property and the Kim Dalglish florist is on Holburn Street. Quality jewellery can be purchased at family firm Finnies on George Street and Jamieson & Carry on Union Street. For a sweet treat, consider a beautiful box of macarons from Almondine’s on Thistle Street.
For more specialist goods then Aberdeen has a range of outdoor clothing shops, vintage stores, even a shop selling rare maps so ask our reception team and we’ll do what we can to point you in the direction of something a little different.
Our staff are happy to help with any surprises or special requests to make your Mother’s Day become that little bit more memorable so do please get in touch. We hope you enjoy your time together. Find out more about our Family breaks here, please call +44 1224 659 392 or email email@example.com.
