Christmas Shopping Break in Aberdeen – HERE COME THE GIRLS!

A Christmas Shopping Break in Aberdeen – Christmas shopping is meant to be fun, so rather than packing it into one exhausting day, pack your suitcase, gather your girls and make a break for it.

Aberdeen has excellent shopping hours all year round and, as a compact city, it’s ideal for those big shopping sprees when you aim to find everything on your list.  Union Square is home to Zara, Apple, Boss, Pandora, Cath Kidston, Fossil, Hollister, Michael Kors and Mac to name a few.  Lots of top names and gift opportunities under one roof. If you want to load up the car with goodies then it’s straightforward: all Skene House properties have ample parking so it’s easy to drive from your apartment to any of Aberdeen’s shopping centres and let the wheels take the strain. Or just park up for free for the duration of your stay, forget about the car and hit the shops on foot.

Skene House Apartment Hotels are extremely central with the Rosemount property within walking distance of four large shopping centres.  In the Bon Accord and St Nicholas Centres you’ll find festive goodies at Jo Malone and L’Occitane, kiddy treats can be bought at Smiggle and the Disney Store, and everything quality under one roof can be found at John Lewis.  There’s also a range of fashion stores from New Look and Coast, Jigsaw and Kirk Geiger – all that’s required for that last minute Christmas party number and accessories.  The Trinity Centre is home to Debenhams, Waterstones, Argos and HMV.  The Academy Shopping Centre is especially good for menswear.  Its independent shops, Concept Clothing and Attic Clothing, both stock sought-after labels and are often exclusive suppliers in the city. Jack Wills is also found within The Academy.

If you prefer quirky independent shops Aberdeen has rich pickings. Finnies the Jewellers on George Street offers a dazzling array of gifts alongside exemplary service. Kafka on Alford Place and Cruise on Union Street are ideal for discerning fashion choices. For those passionate about the latest trainers it’s got to be Hanon on Market Street. Kenny’s Music on The Green is a must for any tuneful gifts. And a few doors down Granite Reef is the ideal shopping destination for any skateboarders or surfers in your life. Skene House Holburn is ideally situated for all the independent shops in the city’s West End such as Nova gifts and kitchenware on Chapel Street or Hamish Munro shoe and clothing boutique on Thistle Street. And for Rosemount Place’s collection of independent shops – from vintage store Peapod, to the Belvidere Gallery for north east prints and paintings, to cheesemonger I J MellisSkene House Rosemount is well located.

On a ladies weekend away everyone needs refreshment. How can you possibly buy thoughtful gifts on an empty stomach?

Fancy A Chocolate Pit Stop? Then it’s got to be Cocoa Ooze on Belmont Street for coffee and luxury, handmade delicacies. Great gift ideas too.

Afternoon Tea for the Ladies If you fancy a cuppa with a difference drop by Cup on Little Belmont Street. Here they serve visually captivating iced teas, traditional afternoon teas and even indulgent chocolate afternoon teas.

A Glass of Vino? Grape & Grain has an excellent wine and gin menu, plus tempting platters of nibbles.

A Coffee and Cake Pit Stop is a winning formula. The Coffee House on Gaelic Lane sells a range of sumptuous cakes including a good range of vegan and gluten free options.

A Cheeky Cocktail? The Tippling House on Belmont Street prides itself on their innovative cocktail menus. The staff will also happily create something to suit your tastes if you’d prefer something bespoke.

After a frenetic day of shopping, eating, shopping, drinking, shopping then perhaps eating again it’s important to have somewhere relaxing to chill out in the evening. Skene House Apartment Hotels offer individual bedrooms, spacious fully equipped kitchens and homely lounges so it’s a great spot to unwind. Order a takeaway from Deliveroo, get the wine out of your fridge and relax. Or, on the other hand, get a second wind, put the make up on and head out for the night. You only live once.  And don’t worry, with complimentary breakfast the following morning guests are fully prepared to hit the shops again!

I think when a city’s small, manageable and friendly that’s half the battle. You can achieve so much so quickly. Add some quality food and drink stops, and a nice place to chill out at the end of it all and you’re sorted!

  2. I’ve never been to Aberdeen and would love to go, especially since you made shopping in Aberdeen sound so much fun! 🙂

The shopping hours here, as well as the range of shops, is fantastic. I’ve been working in other cities when the major shops close at 6pm whereas Aberdeen’s Union Square is open to 8pm most evenings, even later over the festive season. Great for a girls’ weekend or for a spot of retail therapy if on business. Hope you venture here soon!
